Cristiano Ronaldo’s Son Earns Maiden Portugal Under-16s Call-Up

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Son Earns Maiden Portugal Under-16s Call-Up.

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr.
, just 15, has officially been called up to the Portugal Under-16 squad for the first time, continuing what feels like an inevitable family legacy. He’s currently with Al Nassr’s academy in Saudi Arabia, where his father continues to play, and now he’ll represent Portugal in the Federations Cup Tournament in Turkey from October 30 to November 4. Portugal’s U16s will face Turkey, Wales, and England in that event — a serious step up for any teenager, but especially one under the microscope like Ronaldo Jr.

His progress has been steady: he earned his first Under-15 call-up back in May, impressed there, and now moves up a level. The dream, of course, that every fan whispers about — and Ronaldo Sr. has hinted at — is a father-and-son combination for Portugal one day. It’s unlikely anytime soon, but this call-up makes the fantasy at least theoretically possible.

Ronaldo Jr.’s football education has already spanned three elite clubs — Juventus, Manchester United, and Al Nassr — following his father’s career path almost in real time. Now, representing Portugal adds the next natural layer to his development.

Meanwhile, his father remains a national legend: 223 caps, 143 goals, both men’s world records. When Cristiano Sr. first played for Portugal’s U15s back in 2001, few could have imagined that, nearly a quarter-century later, his son would be stepping onto the same international pathway.
