Adidas Launches TRIONDA: Official Technological Marvel Match Ball for FIFA World Cup 2026
October 3, 2025 — Zurich, Switzerland: FIFA and Adidas have officially unveiled “TRIONDA,” the match ball that will be used at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The ball blends advanced sports technology with design elements celebrating the unity of the three nations.
A Symbol of Three Nations
The name TRIONDA is derived from two Spanish words — “Tri” meaning “three” and “Onda” meaning “wave.” The name symbolizes the three host countries and the wave-like patterns that run across the ball’s surface, representing movement, energy, and connection.
The ball’s color palette features red, green, and blue, with each color representing one of the hosts:
-
Red for Canada, accented by the iconic maple leaf
-
Green for Mexico, featuring an eagle emblem
-
Blue for the United States, highlighted with stars
Together, these elements form a unified triangular design that reflects the collaboration of the three nations set to host the world’s biggest sporting event.
Cutting-Edge “Connected Ball” Technology
Adidas’ TRIONDA introduces an updated version of Connected Ball Technology, first seen in the 2022 World Cup.
The ball includes a 500Hz motion sensor that collects precise real-time data on movement, speed, and impact. This information is transmitted instantly to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system to help officials make faster, more accurate calls on tight situations such as offsides and handballs.
According to Adidas, the chip is side-mounted inside one of the ball’s four large panels — a record-low number for a World Cup ball — ensuring perfect balance and consistent flight.
A Design That Blends Tradition and Innovation
TRIONDA’s textured surface and aerodynamic panel structure enhance control and stability in all weather conditions. The seamless thermally bonded panels reduce drag, providing a faster and more predictable trajectory.
The ball also incorporates gold detailing inspired by the FIFA World Cup Trophy, linking tradition to innovation. Each host nation’s emblem — the maple leaf, eagle, and star — is subtly embossed into the surface, creating a tactile, premium finish.
World Cup 2026: A Historic Tournament
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first-ever edition jointly hosted by three countries and the first to feature 48 teams, expanding from the traditional 32.
The tournament kicks off on June 11, 2026, and will run through July 19, with matches taking place across 16 cities in North America, including Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, and Mexico City.
Continuing a Legacy
Adidas has supplied every World Cup match ball since 1970, from the iconic Telstar to Al Rihla in Qatar 2022. TRIONDA continues that legacy, combining heritage craftsmanship with futuristic sports tech.
“TRIONDA isn’t just a ball — it’s a symbol of unity, movement, and shared passion,” said an Adidas spokesperson during the launch event. “It embodies the spirit of three nations coming together to host the world’s game.”
Availability
TRIONDA is now available through Adidas stores and official online retailers worldwide. Early reactions from fans and players have highlighted its distinctive look, though some critics have described the design as “visually busy.” Still, FIFA says the ball represents “a perfect balance of technology, design, and meaning” ahead of what is expected to be the biggest World Cup in history.
