Fermin Lopez Hat-Trick and Rashford Double Fire Barcelona to 6–1 Rout of Olympiacos.
La Masia magic, Rashford’s resurgence, and a night of records at the Camp Nou
Barcelona lit up the Champions League with a vintage attacking display, smashing Olympiacos 6–1 in a night that felt like a throwback to their most ruthless European performances.
Fermin Lopez was the star of the show, scoring a superb hat-trick — the first by a Spaniard for Barça in the competition — while Marcus Rashford continued his blistering continental form with two well-taken goals, bringing his tally to four in three matches.
Lopez opened the scoring inside seven minutes, pouncing on a rebound after Lamine Yamal’s effort was parried by goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis. He doubled the lead half an hour later, bursting into space and curling a delicious left-footer into the corner.
Olympiacos briefly threatened to make a game of it early in the second half, as Ayoub El Kaabi’s goal was ruled out for offside before he converted a penalty moments later. But any hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Santiago Hezze was sent off for a second booking after catching Lopez with a flailing arm.
From then on, Barcelona turned the match into a showcase. Yamal — who at just 18 years and 100 days became the youngest player ever to reach 25 Champions League appearances — converted a penalty after Rashford was brought down.
The English forward then scored twice in quick succession: a low strike into the corner followed by a composed finish after a sublime first touch from a cross-field pass. Lopez completed his hat-trick soon after with a thunderous drive from the edge of the box, sealing a dominant night for Hansi Flick’s injury-hit side.
The match also marked the European debut of 17-year-old Dro Fernandez, one of seven La Masia graduates in the starting XI. The Galician teenager showed his class with an assist for Lopez’s second goal — a calm, incisive pass that hinted at why Flick trusted him on the big stage.
This was the first time since their famous 6–1 comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 that Barcelona have hit six in a Champions League match. The victory puts them on six points from three games, well positioned in their group despite an injury list that includes Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Dani Olmo.
For Olympiacos, it was another miserable night in Europe — their 12th consecutive away defeat in the competition.
Up next, Barcelona turn their focus to El Clásico on Sunday, with momentum firmly on their side and a new generation — Lopez, Yamal, and Fernandez — proving that La Masia’s spark still burns bright.
