Senegal have sealed their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a comprehensive 4–0 victory over Mauritania in Dakar, confirming their status as Group B winners.
Sadio Mané opened the scoring with a brilliant free kick on the stroke of half-time and added a second soon after the restart. Iliman Ndiaye and Habib Diallo rounded off the scoring to the delight of a packed Abdoulaye Wade Stadium.
Coach Pape Bouna Thiaw’s side finished with 24 points from 10 matches, two clear of DR Congo, who edged Sudan 1–0 thanks to a Theo Bongonda strike.
“The team showed character and composure,” said Thiaw. “Qualifying early shows our ambition to compete among the best in North America.”
This marks Senegal’s third straight World Cup appearance, underlining their consistency and attacking prowess. They join Ivory Coast, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, and South Africa among Africa’s confirmed entrants for the 2026 finals in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
