DR Congo Qualify for 2026 World Cup After Dramatic Extra-Time Win Over Jamaica

The Democratic Republic of Congo secured their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after beating Jamaica 1-0 in the intercontinental playoff final.

Axel Tuanzebe scored the only goal of the game in the 100th minute of extra time at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico. The former Manchester United defender, now playing for Burnley, bundled the ball over the line from a corner. The goal was initially checked for a possible handball before being confirmed after a lengthy delay.

Tuanzebe’s Reaction

“We made it very difficult for ourselves, perhaps the occasion got the better of us,” said Tuanzebe.

“To score the winning goal for your country… this is what every player dreams of. I am so proud of what I could do for the country, and now it is time to celebrate.”

Dominance Without Clear Chances
