Tunisia were knocked out of the World Cup on Saturday after a convincing 4-0 defeat to Japan, ending their hopes of reaching the knockout stage.

Ayase Ueda scored twice, while Daichi Kamada and Junya Ito were also on the scoresheet as Japan moved to four points and joined the Netherlands at the top of Group F.

Tunisia, who had already suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Sweden in their opening match, were unable to recover and are now eliminated from the tournament.

Japan dominated from the opening whistle, controlling possession with their quick passing and attacking movement. Daichi Kamada gave them the lead after just four minutes, finishing from close range following a brilliant team move involving Ao Tanaka and Keito Nakamura.

The Blue Samurai continued to create chances, with Tunisia goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen forced into several saves. Japan eventually doubled their advantage in the 31st minute when Ueda punished hesitant defending with a powerful low strike.

After the break, Japan remained in complete control. Junya Ito added a third goal in the 69th minute after breaking through on a well-timed pass, before Ueda completed his brace with a looping header in the 83rd minute.

The result was a disappointing start for new Tunisia coach Hervé Renard, who was appointed after Sabri Lamouchi was dismissed following the team’s opening defeat.
