Which teams have been eliminated from the FIFA World Cup? The 2026 dream is over for these countries




The biggest World Cup ever began with 48 teams. It's getting smaller every day.

Haiti became the first team officially eliminated from the 2026 World Cup with its loss to Brazil on Friday and is mathematically unable to get past the group stage. In the new World Cup format, the top two teams from each group – and the eight best third-place finishers – move on to the Round of 32, which begins on June 28.

Considering that only half of the formerly-32-team field used to get get out of the group stage, there's plenty more room for error in this tournament, being held across 16 cities in North America.

Haiti (Group C)

Haiti lost its first two games of the World Cup: 1-0 against Ecuador and 3-0 against Brazil.

Turkey (Group D)

Turkiye lost its first two games: 2-0 against Australia and 1-0 against Paraguay.


When does the Round of 32 start at World Cup 2026?


Round of 32: June 28-July 3

Round of 16 : July 4-7

Quarterfinals: July 9-11

Semifinals: July 14-15

Third-place game: July 18 (Miami Gardens, Florida)

Final: July 19 (East Rutherford, New Jersey)
