Ayyoub Bouaddi Sets a New Record
Given the high volume of expensive deals completed during the 2026–27 summer transfer window, a new record was always likely. It arrived when 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi was rewarded for his rapid rise at Lille and strong World Cup performances with Morocco.Manchester City took the plunge, spending an eye-watering £86 million ($117 million) to secure his signature and smash the previous teenage transfer record.
Other Notable High-Value Teenage Moves
Manchester United have also turned to Ligue 1 for young talent in the past. Leny Yoro, signed from Lille, cost the club £52 million ($67.6 million). That figure sits slightly above the eventual total paid for Anthony Martial from Monaco in 2015 (£50.4 million / $77.1 million at the time once all conditional add-ons were triggered).Chelsea feature heavily in the top 10. Roméo Lavia’s £58 million ($73.9 million) move from Southampton in 2023 ranks second overall.
More recent arrivals Geovany Quenda and Jorrel Hato also make the list. Estêvão is absent only because of the structure of his transfer from Palmeiras—an initial £29 million ($37 million) fee that could rise to £51.4 million ($78 million) with add-ons.Brighton & Hove Albion’s £46 million ($62.5 million) deal for highly rated centre-back Luka VuÅ¡ković sits in fifth place.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ ultimately disappointing signing of Fábio Silva ranks eighth, just above Tyler Dibling’s £35 million move from Southampton to Everton in 2025.Rounding out the top 10 is Archie Gray, who joined Tottenham Hotspur from Leeds United for approximately £30 million ($37.8 million). The fee would have ranked higher had Joe Rodon not moved in the opposite direction as part of the deal.
