UEFA Euro 2028 Dates, Venues, Host Cities, Format and Full Schedule

Euro 2028 will be jointly hosted by England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland from 9 June to 9 July 2028. Spain are the defending champions after beating England in the Euro 2024 final.The tournament features 24 teams and 51 matches across nine stadiums in eight cities. More than three million tickets will be available, making it the biggest European Championship ever staged.

Host Nations and Qualification

Unlike previous tournaments, none of the four host nations receive automatic qualification. All must go through the qualifying process.Two places are reserved for the two highest-ranked host nations that fail to qualify as group winners or among the eight best runners-up. If at least two hosts qualify on merit, all four will take part.Northern Ireland is no longer a host nation after the UK government declined funding to redevelop Casement Park in time. Belfast will still host the qualifying draw on 6 December 2026.

Nine stadiums will stage matches:


Wembley Stadium (London) – 8 matches (including both semi-finals and the final)

Dublin Arena / Aviva Stadium (Dublin) – 7 matches

National Stadium of Wales / Principality Stadium (Cardiff) – 6 matches

Hampden Park (Glasgow) – 6 matches

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (London) – 5 matches

Manchester City Stadium / Etihad Stadium (Manchester) – 5 matches

Everton Stadium / Hill Dickinson Stadium (Liverpool) – 5 matches

St James’ Park (Newcastle) – 5 matches

Villa Park (Birmingham) – 4 matches

Tournament Format

The format remains the same as Euro 2016 and Euro 2024:24 teams divided into six groups of four

Top two from each group plus the four best third-placed teams advance to the Round of 16

Single-leg knockout stages from the last 16 onwards

No third-place play-off
