Which Soccer Leagues Still Have Open Transfer Windows After Deadline Day?
Transfer deadline day has passed across most of Europe's major soccer leagues, but the summer transfer window is not completely closed.
Several leagues still have time to complete deals in the coming days and weeks. That includes competitions in the Netherlands, Scotland, Turkey, Portugal and Saudi Arabia, along with Major League Soccer.
The Bundesliga closed its summer transfer window on Monday, August 31.
A day later, on Tuesday, September 1, the remaining four leagues from Europe's traditional "big five" also reached their deadlines. The Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A all closed their summer windows.
However, clubs in several other major leagues still have opportunities to sign or sell players.
Which Leagues Still Have Open Transfer Windows?
The biggest leagues with transfer windows still open include:
Eredivisie: Wednesday, September 2
MLS: Wednesday, September 2
Scottish Premiership: Thursday, September 3
Turkish Super Lig: Friday, September 4
Liga Portugal: September 15
Saudi Pro League: October 12
Eredivisie Transfer Deadline
The Dutch Eredivisie remains open until Wednesday, September 2.
Dutch clubs therefore have a final opportunity to complete incoming and outgoing transfers after the main European deadline has passed.
MLS Transfer Deadline
Major League Soccer also has its transfer window closing on Wednesday, September 2.
MLS clubs can use the remaining time to strengthen their squads or complete late player moves.
Scottish Premiership Transfer Deadline
The Scottish Premiership has until Thursday, September 3, to complete summer transfer business.
Clubs in Scotland therefore have another opportunity to make additions after most of Europe's major leagues have closed their windows.
Turkish Super Lig Transfer Deadline
The Turkish Super Lig remains open until Friday, September 4.
That gives Turkish clubs several additional days to complete deals and potentially bring in players who were unable to secure moves before the September 1 deadline elsewhere in Europe.
Liga Portugal Transfer Deadline
Portugal offers an even longer window for clubs.
The Liga Portugal transfer deadline is September 15, giving teams additional time to complete their summer recruitment.
Saudi Pro League Transfer Deadline
The Saudi Pro League has one of the latest transfer deadlines among the major competitions still open.
Its summer transfer window remains open until October 12.
That gives Saudi clubs considerably more time to pursue players and finalize deals after the major European deadline.
What Happens to Players After Deadline Day?
The closure of a transfer window does not necessarily mean every player without a club must wait until the next window.
Players who are out of contract remain free agents and can still sign for clubs, subject to the relevant competition's registration rules.
For players currently under contract, however, opportunities become more limited once their club's transfer window closes.
The leagues that remain open could therefore provide important options for players still looking for a move.
Why the Remaining Transfer Windows Matter
The later deadlines could lead to more transfer activity even after the biggest European leagues have finished their summer business.
Clubs in the Eredivisie, MLS, Scottish Premiership, Turkish Super Lig, Liga Portugal and Saudi Pro League can still make moves while teams in England, Spain, France, Italy and Germany have already completed their main transfer windows.
That means transfer deadline day may have passed, but the summer transfer market is not completely finished.
