Inter 2–1 Victory at Verona with Late Twist

Zielinski Shines as Inter Edge Verona 2–1 in Dramatic Late Finish.

Inter Milan snatched a dramatic 2–1 victory over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Piotr Zielinski and a stoppage-time own goal from Martin Frese.

The Nerazzurri looked sharp early, with Zielinski testing Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò before breaking the deadlock in spectacular fashion. From a rehearsed corner routine, Hakan Çalhanoğlu laid the ball to the edge of the area, where Zielinski met it first time with a stunning right-foot volley into the top corner — a strike worthy of a highlight reel and his first goal since October 2024.

Verona, winless all season, fought back bravely. Their persistence paid off when Giovane powered down the right and fired a thunderous effort past Yann Sommer to make it 1–1 before halftime. The hosts even came close to leading when Gift Orban hit the post moments later.

Inter pressed for a winner throughout the second half but were frustrated by Montipò’s saves and Verona’s defensive resilience. Just when it seemed the match would end level, Nicolo Barella delivered a dangerous cross in the 94th minute that deflected off Frese and into his own net — sealing three hard-fought points for Simone Inzaghi’s side.

It wasn’t Inter’s smoothest performance, but Zielinski’s brilliance and their relentless push at the end ensured they stayed in the Serie A title chase, while Verona’s wait for a first win of the season continues.
